welcome to the blog
an introduction & portfolio
Welcome, new reader!
Kyrie Reads is a literary blog for book reviews of all genres, rambles, and personal essays.
I started Kyrie Reads a little over a year and a half ago (originally on Weebly) to hold myself accountable for actually reading, and I’ve amassed over 400 blog subscribers here on Substack. I’m so thankful to all of you for giving my little corner of the internet a chance, especially to those of you who have paid subscriptions. ^^
BLOG SCHEDULE (September 2025 — Current):
Quarterly Reviews
Reading wrap-ups and reviews posted at the end of every season with analysis and ratings for each book read during that time.
Spring - May 15th
Summer - August 15th
Fall - November 15th
Winter - February 15th
Monthly Posts
Essays, rambles, rants, and other long-form blog posts about the literary world are published on the 21st of every month.
I’ve been itching to post literary essays, so this new schedule gives me an opportunity to tackle both reviews and think-pieces while still giving me time to breathe. This means at most you’ll be receiving 2 posts in your inbox per month instead of 3-4 like usual.
I’m also going to be more critical with my rating system. I usually never rate anything below 2 stars because I simply DNF books I can’t stand. But going forward, I will be using the following rating system:
1 Star = Awful
2 Stars = Okay
3 Stars = Average
4 Stars = Good
5 Stars = Great
Who Am I?
My name is Kyrie. I’m an English graduate and writer from California currently living in NYC. I read books of all genres, but I’m partial to horror, high fantasy, and nonfiction (memoirs, history, etc.). My favorite books are Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman, The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, Root Rot by Saskia Nislow, The Possession of Alba Diaz by Isabel Cañas, The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, Uzumaki by Junji Ito, and A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck.
I’ve worked as an assistant to a university press, bookseller, and managing editor of an undergraduate litmag. I have professional book and graphic design experience (you can find my portfolio here).
I hope to publish a novel one day! I’ve had my poetry & fiction published in the following places:
“Skip in 5 Secs” - Flash Fiction
Published in NUNUMS Done in a Hundred Anthology (2025) as Kyrie Nicole
“My Childhood Had a Name” - Poem (Jodi Stutz Award Winner)
Published in Toyon Literary Magazine Vol. 70 (2024) as Kiran Dunning
“Graduate” - Poem
Published in KINDABUMMED MAG (Feb 2023) as Kyrie Dunning
“Honeysuckles” - Poem
Published in KINDABUMMED MAG (Feb 2023) as Kyrie Dunning
That’s all, and thanks for reading! I’m excited for what’s to come for Kyrie Reads, and thanks again for all your support. Ciao! (๑’ᵕ’๑)⸝*
