Wow Kyrie! I feel that I can relate to you in so many ways! Glad you were able to overcome these obstacles as they are apart of our story. All thanks to a visit to a library. I feel I am getting more into bookstores the older I get.
Oh my gosh kyrieeeee so good so good I love it. Uhg this is definitely not the worst thing you wrote about, but overhearing boys use you in a fuck Mary kill scenario hurtssss. Something similar happened to me. Kids don’t realize how much the person they’re picking on notices or remembers.
I worked at my local library when I was a troubled teen with a ton of emotional baggage. Forty years later I still miss that job and I continue to see libraries as safe places. When I travel I *always* visit the main library of the city. They are consistently calm, contemplative places devoid of judgement and passionate about learning. I traded church for libraries long ago. I think if most people did we would have had Utopia ages ago.
So beautifully written and incredibly moving. You really echo a lot of how I feel about libraries, and the way I’ve been thinking about reading (and writing) lately — it’s scary to think these sanctuaries won’t be there for young people in the future if we don’t do something about it. So glad to hear you’re in a better place these days!
You're such a wonderful writer, this post is so lovely and personal and important. You write with such sincerity and personability. It's so mystifying and inspiring seeing your works as they come out. I truly, truly love this
